The European Year of Cultural Heritage in 2018 (EYCH2018) will be an unique opportunity to involve citizens, in particular children and young people, in events and projects emphasising Europe's cultural heritage and values, helping to strengthen a sense of belonging to a European common area and identity.

The European Committee of the Regions (CoR), which fully supported the declaration of 2018 as European Year of Cultural Heritage, has repeatedly confirmed its willingness to be involved in implementing this event by including a strong territorial component stressing the fundamental role of local and regional authorities in the management, promotion, protection and safeguarding of the European cultural heritage.

The CoR's contribution would include dedicated activities, stimulation of outreach activities at the local and regional level, including sharing of experience and good practices, dissemination of information, intercultural dialogue as well as awareness raising actions that contribute to the objectives of the EYCH2018.
